Mox Boarding House

What a cool place! This spot is awesome for gaming and food. Huge space for several people to have a good time. The selection of games is great and the staff was friendly and accommodating the entire time. I’d love to come back when I’m in Portland again!

Love Mox Boarding House! Friendly and helpful staff, inviting environment that includes plenty of table space to play and even food that can be ordered right to your table! The massive selection of games and accessories in a very Portland atmosphere makes this a place I'd like to visit often!

Really impressive, they have a stunning selection of boardgames, RPG books, minis, and cardboard. The decor is super elevated and the whole place just feels like being in one of those old timey upper class clubs. The restaurant was great, we enjoyed some good drinks and delicious loaded steak fries. The tiramisu was kind of meh and we wish we'd gotten the brownie or something. The bathrooms are super nice, very private and clean. The clientele is pretty broad and it seems like this is a great place for tabletop gamers of all ages and backgrounds.

As much as I'd love to recommend Mox to anyone that isn't a tourist, I can't. It's a tourist trap, plain and simple. The merits it has as a restaurant are that of bougie pricing, small portions, and lots and lots of buttered food. Yes, the atmosphere is chic, and pretty, and reminiscent of a gorgeous hotel; and yes, the initial shockwave of seeing it for the first time is downright breathtaking. The issues you run into from continual attendance are unavoidable though, unfortunately. The tables are much, much too small for the magic events they host. The pricing on the aforementioned food is consistently more than a couple dollars too expensive for the amount that you get. If you show up for a magic event and sit anywhere that isn't your dedicated space, even for a bit; you'll be told to move to make space for a theoretical restaurant patron who almost certainly will not take that space once you oblige the request. Of note, this applies to outside the restaurant space itself. In the dedicated tcg room, you can be sitting at an empty table, and then be told to leave "just in case" a restaurant patron needs to sit there. In the 20+ times this has happened to me personally, I've never seen my old spot get filled. Pricing for magic singles is also consistently bordering on scalper prices, and warhammer product is consistently above msrp. The atmosphere and the clientele are the only two genuine benefits I give this place; and I wish I could agree with the glowing reviews I see Mox get. It's very, very telling that most of the 5 star reviews are from those visiting the area rather than locals.

This place is consistently a 5 star experience. Sean was awesome! Above and beyond with his service and his personality. I'm definitely gonna be stopping by regularly and recommend it to everyone I know in the area!
